CU Boulder Center for Cultural Connections and Community Scholarships

The Center for Cultural Connections and Community at the University of Colorado Boulder offers several annual scholarships for students with demonstrated commitment to or involvement in the LGBTQIA community. Please see the individual scholarship descriptions below and complete the supplemental questions to apply.

1. LGBTQIA Scholarship

The LGBTQIA Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship awarded to an undergraduate CU Boulder student.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be an undergraduate student.
  • Have a record of service in making CU Boulder a more hospitable place for the LGBTQIA community

Preference is given to first-year students who have demonstrated satisfactory academic progress. Students do not have to demonstrate financial need to apply.

To apply for consideration, you must:

  • Complete the CU Boulder Scholarship Application.
  • Submit your application by the posted deadline.
2. Joel Roger Wayne Scholarship

The Joel Roger Wayne Scholarship is a $1,000 award for CU Boulder undergraduate students that was established in 1996 to ensure that talented students with demonstrated financial need as well as leadership and involvement in the LGBTQIA community could complete their college degrees. Joel was a firm believer that if he could even help one young LGBTQ student get through college, he would have accomplished something meaningful in this world.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be an undergraduate student.

  • Complete the CU Boulder Scholarship Application.
  • Submit your application by the posted deadline.
3. Positive Futures Scholarship

The Positive Futures Scholarship is a $1,500 academic year scholarship for undergraduate or graduate students whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS or who are involved in public health advocacy. To protect the privacy of scholarship winners, this is an award that can be given anonymously.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be an undergraduate or graduate student who is enrolled full-time.
  • Have been affected by HIV/AIDS OR are involved in public health advocacy.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • have a GPA of 3.0 or higher

To apply for consideration, you must:

  • Submit your application by the posted deadline.

These scholarships aim to support the lived and individual experiences and achievements of LGBTQ+ college students. This scholarship is open to qualified CU Boulder applicants and does not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, creed, religion, veteran status, marital status, political affiliation, political philosophy, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression in accordance with state, federal, and Regent law.
