John J. Wehman Scholarship in the Benson Center for the Study of Western Civilization

The John J. Wehman Scholarship is awarded by the Benson Center for the Study of Western Civilization to undergraduate students who are working in the areas of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. Preference may be given to applicants who can demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid. Scholarship awards are made in the early fall, and students serve as Wehman Scholars through the academic year. Awardees automatically become Benson Center Undergraduate Fellows.

A completed application for the Wehman Scholarship includes: (1) a brief account of why you are a strong application for the award; (2) a letter of reference from a faculty member; and (3) a copy of your unofficial academic transcript.

Scholarships are awarded for one academic year and are renewable based on the following criteria: continued active enrollment as an undergraduate at CU Boulder working in the area of Philosophy, Politics, or Economics and making regular progress toward degree completion; participation in the Benson Center Undergraduate Fellows Program; and submission of a brief reflection essay at the end of each year.

John J. Wehman was a 1952 graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder in Sociology and received his MS in Public Administration from the University of Colorado in 1968. He lived in Colorado all of his life and served in the Air Force during World War II. This $1,500 renewable scholarship is made possible through a generous donation by the John J. Wehman Trust.
